At the core of what makes First Presbyterian Church who we are, is our belief in the virtues. He teaches us in 1 Corinthians 13:13, “And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.”

We believe that Faith is the solid foundation upon which our church is built, our belief is grounded in scripture, and our connection to believers of the past through the historic confessions of Reformed Christianity.

We have Hope in the good news that Jesus brought to humanity; in hope, we reach up to God through worship and prayer, and we share our hope with our neighbors through service and compassion. It is our connection to the future that God leads us into.

The greatest of these is Love. Love is the core of all that Jesus is, all that we endeavor to practice, and all that motivates us to gather as God’s people. We love others because God first loved us. Love keeps us grounded in the present and in the needs and concerns of those around us.

What does that mean? It means that our church approaches spirituality as a person-centered, developmental idea of faith, and bringing people together for a common purpose is at our central core. We provide a place where nothing else matters when you walk through the door – first, you can simply belong here. Other things, like beliefs and behaviors, are elements we believe are a natural second step when you have that place you can call home.

The role we play in fostering that sense of belonging is in providing a platform for local organizations to network, grow, and share their needs. We believe that the church is the nexus for learning, a place to blend culture and provide spiritual nourishment, no matter where you are on your journey. It’s a place for the healthy exchange of ideas, and a moderator for ongoing dialogue with a community of believers that can support and teach each other.

First Presbyterian Church isn’t like other churches – and that’s on purpose. We want to be different, because we want to be the place that everyone feels comfortable to call home. In essence, our model is different. It’s one that welcomes different parts of our community to come together in one place, a place where everyone, first, belongs.

We were founded on the values of faith, hope and love. He teaches us that “the greatest of these is love,” – 1 Corinthians 13:13, and since inception, we’ve been dedicated to serving others through that practice.

Our calling is to harbor an individual’s growth through dialogue with other people they meet here at the church, and through discovery of our beliefs.

Our love manifests through using the church and its resources to create a place that makes those things happen. We build stronger connections within the city, because we believe that our congregation is our community – and the community is our congregation. We encourage both individuals and the groups within our neighborhood to join this community and become an integral part of what makes us who we are.

Our mission is the one Jesus gave to all of his followers at the end of his earthly ministry. “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” – Matthew 28:19

Making people disciples means helping them to change and transform their lives for the better. Our church is committed to fostering that very community that Jesus called us to create – one unified in, and by, him. Therefore, we provide a space and the support that our El Paso organizations need to find a place where they all can be welcome.

Our doors are open and we cannot wait to meet you and welcome you through them. Subscribe to our newsletter today to learn more about us, and stay up to date on events and organizations.
