Dating back to 16th-century Japan, Bushido Martial Arts is a traditional Japanese Martial Art form, but uniquely based in the Christian faith. It offers a similarly unique perspective and reflection on spirituality, one that helps drive First Presbyterian’s goal toward unifying a community by inviting the Bushido following into our rooms to practice this art form. Introduced to FPC by Metropolitan Community Church, the Bushido program is a shared ministry with our sister church.

Bushido Code is based on eight virtues:

  • Righteousness
  • Heroic Courage
  • Benevolence, Compassion
  • Respect
  • Integrity
  • Honor
  • Duty & Loyalty
  • Self-Control

Whether an adult or a child, every class begins with physical training in martial arts and concludes with spiritual reflection and discussion on how our faith can continue to guide our lives. It gives students a dose of history and instills a strong will to pursue their journey toward the future.
